Chorda
A chord is multiple notes sounding simultaneously — each distinct, each changed by the presence of the others. Chorda is a framework for understanding complex systems as polyphonic: not a single melody of cause and effect, but multiple simultaneous registers that create meaning through their interaction.
The Limit of Linear Thinking
Most problem-solving frameworks are built on a linear model: problem → cause → solution. This model works well for simple systems where variables are few, relationships are direct, and interventions have predictable effects. It fails systematically in complex adaptive systems — where variables are many, relationships are dynamic, and interventions generate feedback that changes the system in ways that change the intervention’s effects.
The Weather Wars — economic, social, atmospheric, space — are all complex adaptive systems. They do not respond to linear interventions in linear ways. Chorda is the framework for thinking about them polyphonically: attending to multiple registers simultaneously, listening for the harmonics and dissonances between them.

Chorda Analysis in Practice
Chorda analysis maps an intervention across all five registers simultaneously. An intervention that advances in the material register but degrades the relational register (extracting trust while deploying resources) may produce worse long-term outcomes than no intervention. An intervention that advances in the narrative register while failing in the material register may produce the conditions for future material change.
The musical metaphor is load-bearing: a chord with three notes in harmony and two in dissonance sounds different from a chord with five notes in harmony. Chorda analysis names which registers are harmonizing and which are in tension — and asks whether the dissonance is productive friction or structural contradiction.
A chord is not the sum of its notes.
It is what happens between them.
